The ASSOCIATION OF FINE ARTISTS OF SERBIA is the most important organization in Serbia
comprising and professionally organizing about two thousand members. The Association was
founded on 15 November 1919, although in fact it continued the activities of the first professional
"Association of Serbia's Artists for Plastic Arts and Music", as it had officially existed in Belgrade as
early as in 1898. The establishment of this professional organization for fine arts considerably
influenced the further development of artistic life in Belgrade and Serbia. The present name Artists'
Association of Serbia, or ULUS for short, was given after World War Two. During the eighty years of
its activities the Association has persistently promoted artistic life, popularizing art and providing
professional protection to its members. It is important to point out that all the major artists in Serbia in 20th Century have been members of the Association. The first president was the painter Uros Predic.

ART PAVILION "CVIJETA ZUZORIC"

The association of friends of art "Cvijeta Zuzoric" was founded in 1922. The basic goal of the
association, as it was stated in the Rules, was to "spread the interest in arts and create conditions for its advancement and development among our people". "Cvijeta Zuzoric" had three sections: for
literature, music and fine arts, each having its board and jury. On the plane of fine arts the Association developed broad activities, so that artistic life between two wars was tied to this Association in different ways. In 1928 the Association fulfilled one of its basic tasks when from donations it built Art Pavilion at Kalemegdan designed by arch. Branislav Kojic. The first exhibition season was 1928/29. World War Two interrupted the activities of "Cvijeta Zuzoric"; the work of the Pavilion resumed in 1945 when it was given to the ULUS for management. Since its foundation the Pavilion has housed exhibitions and other manifestations which in terms of their content, character and mode of presentation have contributed to the development of fine and applied arts and propagation of artistic culture.
